Regardless of how many of your clients fit that description, we hope that you will participate by clicking the link below. https://www.psychdata.com/s.asp?SID=125760 Specifically, we aim to map case management services in the community in order to better understand the services provided, the populations served, and potential barriers to services that clients experience. To do so, we are requesting that program directors or executive directors complete this brief survey, which should take approximately 5 minutes. At the end of this survey, we will ask you to provide the name(s), phone number(s), and email address(es) of at least one case manager in each of your agency's programs. We are most interested in the responses from full-time case managers whose work reflects the typical services delivered in that program. We will then send a link to a separate survey that asks detailed questions about the case management services they provide. That survey will take approximately 20 minutes. We would appreciate your responses by Friday, May 8th. Please note that the survey is not anonymous because we would like to map the services delivered and to follow up with you if we have any questions about your responses. Results will be posted on our website in June. To enhance the accuracy of the map of case management services, we would appreciate it if you would forward this email to other directors who might be interested in participating. Please email me if you have any questions at vholton at homewardva.org. Broad Street. 12:30 pm Registration 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm Audio conference "Weaving Ethics Into Your Organization's Fundraising" Presented By: Paulette V. Maehara, CFRE, CAE Everyone understands that ethics is critical to fundraising. After all, without public trust and confidence, fundraising simply cannot occur. But too often we look at ethics in a very limited fashion: "It's a list of things we can and cannot do," or "That's the job of the fundraiser." In an increasingly connected world where accountability, ethics and transparency are not just buzz words but fundamental aspects of a donor's (and society's) expectations, we must reexamine what it means to be ethical. Paulette Maehara, CFRE, CAE, the president and CEO of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, will explore how organizations can take a holistic look at ethics, identify how organizations can use ethics to reach out to the public to generate support and discuss the current pressing ethical issues - such as donor control and percentage-based compensation - that often seem to arise. Participants will learn: How donors and others view ethics as it relates to nonprofits and what their ethical expectations are of charities. How fundraisers can employ ethics and their ethical values into their organization's fundraising. How fundraisers can integrate ethics into their organization's daily operations. How to discuss some of the critical ethical issues-such as percentage-based compensation and donor control-with donors and others. Customer Service: 4 keys that keep them coming back for more. Sam Walton said "There is only one boss. The customer. And he can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else." Knowing generational influences, how each person communicates through their strengths and liabilities, and how your co-workers and customers communicate make for a more profitable, productive and pleasant work environment. It's service that keeps them coming back for more. In this seminar, you'll learn how to: * Manage using the 4 keys * Make great teams * Give the right information * Appreciate your office diversity * Keep communication open * Give exemplary customer service This entertaining, educational approach to customer service is applicable for any situation. Homeward is conducting a survey to learn more about case management services provided to individuals who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness in our community. Regardless of how many of your clients fit that description, we hope that you will participate by clicking the link below. ? https://www.psychdata.com/s.asp?SID=125760 ? Specifically, we aim to map case management services in the community in order to better understand the services provided, the populations served, and potential barriers to services that clients experience.? To do so, we are requesting that program directors or executive directors?complete this brief survey, which should take approximately 5 minutes.? ? At the end of this survey, we will ask you to provide the name(s), phone number(s), and email address(es) of at least one case manager in each of your agency?s programs. We are most interested in the responses from full-time case managers whose work reflects the typical services delivered in that program. We will then send a link to a separate survey that asks detailed questions about the case management services they provide. That survey will take approximately 20 minutes. ? We would appreciate your responses by Friday, May 8th. ? Please note that the survey is not anonymous because we would like to map the services delivered and to follow up with you if we have any questions about your responses.? Results will be posted on our website in June. =0 A? ? To enhance the accuracy of the map of case management services, we would appreciate it if you would forward this email to other directors who might be interested in participating. ? Please email me if you have any questions at vholton at homewardva.org. ? ? Thank you, ? Valerie Holton, LCSW Case Management Program Manager Homeward www.homewardva.org ? This large sunny location was originally a daycare, and more recently housed a non-profit organization, but it's large open rooms lend themselves to many more options. There are 3 large rooms, currently used as office space and classrooms all with many large windows and plentiful closet space. You can be assured that you will not run out of storage space in this building! There is also a large commercial kitchen, again with plenty of storage. In addition, there are 2 smaller rooms that also serve as office space and a large basement that has potential to be used either for storage or additional office space. As well as separate bathrooms for boys and girls there are 3 additional bathrooms for "grown-ups". The large playground is completely fenced in and is shaded by mature oak trees. There is also a smaller playground for younger children. This would be a sublease for up to 4 years, with the option to extend (negotiable). As of July 1st, 2009 the rent is $3,090. This will increase by 3% every August 1st, commencing August 1st, 2010. Please call Sandra at 804 290 0475 to view this building before it is snapped up! Pictures are available to interested parties. Hosting is a great way to learn more about another culture without a huge time commitment. The students are both boys and girls, ages 14-17 years old. They are from all over Spain. The dates this year are July 1-July 29, and they will be attending English classes in the fan and afternoon activities, as well as full day excursions that families are welcome to join. Time is very important to us in finding our host families soon, so we can report to Spain how many students will be able to come to our area. The students are here to accomplish two goals: 1. To improve their English speaking skills through being with the host families and attending classes. 2. To immerse themselves into their American host family and learn about our culture. The host family requirements are: 1) Students must have their own bed. They can share a room with a child of the same sex, if necessary, as long as they have her own bed and some space of their own. They would be eating breakfast and dinner with the host family.Sight seeing is not necessary, but up to the host family. The teens bring their own money to participate in events with the host family and the host family is not expected to pay for their way. 2) Host families get them to classes and field trips, but I will be happy to help out if necessary. Also, carpools can be arranged at the host family orientation meeting and families are encouraged to join us in the fun! So DON'T WORRY about travel arrangements This year we will be going to Busch Gardens, Virginia Beach, Water Country, Washington DC and historic Williamsburg. I will provide transportation to and from these events for the students. They will be flying into and out of Richmond International Airport. 3) Your student should be treated as part of the family, and will eat what you eat and maintain the same basic schedule as your family. Families should plan on providing 3 meals per day for the students. 4) Families should consist of a single parent or a two parent home with children However, we do have several families that host successfully, which consist of a married couple with no children in the home. We are not allowed to place a student with a single person. Although, single adults do host my adult escorts and enjoy that experience very much! This is an excellent opportunity for families and children of all ages. Please let me know if would like to discuss taking the next step toward this hosting opportunity. Thank you, and please tell your friends! MADD will present a family walkathon at the University of Richmond to raise awareness of our mission and to raise funds to help achieve our goal. The three-mile walk will offer entertainment, prizes, and a health fair as well as, fun activities for children, and adults. Walk Like MADD is a noncompetitive walk designed so that anyone can participate. Participants are asked to raise money for MADD through pledges from family, friends, and coworkers. We expect families, corporations, college chapters, educational and law enforcement leaders, and local SADD chapters to join in this wonderful event. MADD also expects to have virtual walkers from across the state. ?Walkers and pledge supporters of Walk Like MADD are the key to securing funds to support MADD?s mission to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking,? said Chris Konschak, MADD?s Virginia Executive Director. He added, ?Every step taken and every pledge made will help raise funds and heighten awareness of MADD?s lifesaving programs and services. Since its founding in 1980, MADD has helped save more than 300,000 lives. Underage drinking is America?s number one youth drug problem. It kills more people under 21 than all other illicit drugs combined. MADD?s goal is to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking. A 501(c)3 non-profit grassroots organization, MADD has approximately 400 entities and 2 million members and supporters nationwide. Anyone interested in participating in MADD?s Walk Like MADD walkathon or who would like to get a company involved, can learn more by calling MADD Virginia. Each summer we place high school students at various worksites, to include nonprofits, so that they may participate in a valuable internship opportunity. This summer we would like to make the offer to local nonprofits who desire additional assistance at their organization. In order to participate as an intern site, nonprofits must be able to meet the following qualifications: * Able to provide an internship opportunity for the same intern for the next three summers (7 weeks/summer); * Able to provide a progressive work experience for the internt; * Able to provide the student intern with a mentor and supervisor; * Able to commit to submitting the PFF timesheet by the scheduled deadlines; and * Able to host the student from June 29th-August 7th. Please note that the student will intern at the site Monday-Thursday and they are required to participate in mandatory PFF skills training every Friday. If your nonprofit organization is willing to host a PFF intern (at no cost to the organization), please contact our office at PFF at partnershipforthefuture.org or call 804-965-1705. More about PFF Students: PFF interns are highly motivated students from Richmond and Henrico High schools. In order to be eligible for the program, students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, submit an essay, and participate in a panel interview conducted by PFF. Student interns are then trained by PFF before being placed at any sponsoring internship site. Over our 15 years of existence, PFF has a 99% success rate of students matriculating to college. You've discovered an error after your tax return has been filed. What should you do? You may need to amend your return. The IRS usually corrects math errors or requests missing forms -- such as W-2s or schedules. In these instances, do not amend your return. However, do file an amended return if any of the following were reported incorrectly: * Your filing status * Your total income * Your deductions or credits Use Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, to correct a previously filed Form 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ or electronically-filed return. Be sure to enter the year of the return you are amending at the top of Form 1040X. If you are amending more than one tax return, use a separate 1040X for each one and mail each return in a separate envelope to the IRS processing center for the area in which you live. The 1040X instructions list the addresses for the centers. The Form 1040X has three columns. Column A is used to show original or adjusted figures from the original return. Column C is used to show the corrected figures. The difference between the figures in Columns A and C is shown in Column B. There is an area on the back of the form where you explain the specific changes being made on the return and the reason for each change. If the changes involve another schedule or form, attach it to the 1040X. For example, if you are filing a 1040X because you have a qualifying child and now want to claim the Earned Income Credit, you must attach a Form 1040 Schedule EIC to show the qualifying person's name, year of birth and Social Security number. If you are filing to claim an additional refund, wait until you have received your original refund before filing Form 1040X. You may cash that check while waiting for any additional refund. If you owe additional tax for 2008, you should file Form 1040X and pay the tax by the April due date to avoid any penalty and interest. Generally, to claim a refund, you must file Form 1040X within three years from the date you filed your original return or within two years from the date you paid the tax, whichever is later. Form 1040X and instructions are available at www.irs.gov or by calling 1-800-TAX-FORM (1-800-829-3676). Also, don't forget to e-file your taxes - it's fast, easy, and more accurate than paper. This summer, while open to the public at no charge, the VHS will display three exhibitions about the Vietnam era. Soul Soldiers: African Americans and the Vietnam Era explores the issues, actions, reactions, and expressions of life and culture of African Americans as they were affected by the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War. Over 160 artifacts, photographs, audio recordings, songs, oral histories, and an original documentary on display in this award-winning exhibition show how events in the 1960s helped frame African American political and social perspectives that extended beyond civil rights. Marking Time: Voyage to Vietnam features a cache of Vietnam War soldier art of striking importance and poignancy. Soldiers and Marines on the ship USNS General Nelson M. Walker, bound for Vietnam in 1967, inscribed graffiti phrases and images on the bottom sides of canvas bunks in the troop compartments. Men wrote their name and hometown, the date they expected to leave the service, and kept day-by-day calendars to mark the progress of the voyage. Original graffiti-covered canvases-discovered in the process of scrapping the vessel in 2005-display messages of patriotism, politics, humor, anxiety, and love. Bring Paul Home: Phyllis Galanti and Vietnam War POWs is based on the collection given to the Virginia Historical Society by Richmond resident Phyllis Galanti. Her husband, Paul, was a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy when his plane was shot down over Vietnam on June 17, 1966. Mr. Galanti was a Prisoner of War (POW) until February 12, 1973. Pictures, letters, pamphlets, buttons, and posters from the donated collection show Mrs. Galanti's efforts, and those of the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia, to publicize the plight of their loved ones and to secure their release. If you are interested in participating or learning more about the project, this is the perfect time to learn more. The street soccer team is a project of the Daily Planet and is also sponsored by the Richmond Kickers. The purpose of the team is to create a fun and healthy atmosphere for Richmond's homeless and potentially homeless individuals, where for a few hours a week, they can forget about their problems and experience achievement through sports. Outreach services will be offered to players to assist them on a personal level. Saturday's event will be a culmination of our recruiting efforts - we will mainly be giving more information to interested players and playing a bit of soccer. Practices start June 1 and last through the end of July, with a national tournament in Washington D.C. sponsored by the national organization, Street Soccer USA. If you are interested in being a part of this project and would like to learn more about how you can help or get plugged in, we'll have more information for you this Saturday. Interested people can register by calling 343-2088 during the week of June 1-7, National CPR/AED Awareness Week. The training can be conducted on-line followed by a one-on-one two hour session with a Red Cross instructor. "The Red Cross helps during all types of crisis and being unemployed is definitely a crisis," stated Reggie Gordon, Chapter CEO. "Becoming Red Cross certified can make people more qualified when searching for jobs, especially in the fields of construction and healthcare. For example, OSHA requires construction workers to be trained in CPR and First Aid. If one is already trained, they will be more marketable. Being unemployed can take its toll emotionally and completing a Red Cross class can help give one a sense of accomplishment." Learning CPR and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) may mean the difference between life and death. "We'd like to see every household, place of work or worship, have at least one person certified in CPR/AED and to have more AED in locations throughout our area," continued Gordon. "By learning basic skills one will go from being a helpless bystander to trained, empowered and prepared to take action during an emergency." "Imagine two jumbo jets crashing and killing all on board. That's about how many people nationwide that die every day from sudden cardiac arrest. Now, imagine a safe and simple device about the size of a lunchbox and price of a laptop that may have saved many of those lives. That's the power of the AED," according to Gordon. During CPR/AED Awareness Week the chapter is also launching an on-line training program for businesses or individuals. Red Cross Online Training offers lifesaving training from the convenience of a computer then enhanced by hands-on skills review and certification testing with a Red Cross instructor.
