Deborah can be reached at DeborahDLColeman at aol.com or (804) 796-1474. More information about the program follows. Thanks for your willingness to work with us! ---------------------------------------------------------- This summer the Phoenix Project is once again bringing thirty undergraduate and graduate students from all across Virginia to Petersburg for six weeks to learn about nonprofit management and social entrepreneurship and to help with community-identified projects. Getting free help for your nonprofit organization or municipal agency is just a few mouse clicks away! Students are excited to work on a variety of projects for Petersburg organizations, including developing marketing plans, conducting research, planning events, writing development plans, and more. Imagine having extra hands and minds this summer to finish that long neglected project that would really move your organization forward. Our students stand ready to work with you to accomplish your goals and have a wide range of backgrounds and majors. Students joining us this summer are pursuing studies in business, government, communications, public policy, criminal justice, environmental science, dance, and many other fields. We look forward to talking with you about more ways in which we can add value to your organization this summer and further our mission to prepare the next generation of social entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders in Virginia. The first step is to fill out our online form to propose your project: As you are thinking about projects to propose, it might be helpful to consider the following: * Students will be working on community projects from June 22-July 25; * Usually teams of 4-5 students will be assigned to work on each project that is accepted; * Students will be supervised by seasoned nonprofit professionals, meaning that you will only need to be available to provide information, input, and guidance during the process, but not to supervise them on a daily basis; * Though we will try to accommodate as many requests as we can, it may not be possible for us to tackle every project during the summer, so please help us prioritize your requests if you are submitting multiple project proposals; * Projects that include a learning and growth opportunity for the engaged students are preferable, and as part of our program requirements, students are not able to perform clerical and office tasks during their work with the community organizations; and * Students will be provided office space and equipment by the Phoenix Project, so you don't have to worry about providing workspace. After we receive your form, we will get in touch with you to discuss the project further. We look forward to working with you, and our students look forward to learning from you this summer! Project submissions are due by May 15th. Deborah Coleman will be lead supervisor and point of contact for this summer's community-projects. Deborah is owner and principal consultant of The Coleman Group, LLC, a management consulting practice that specializes in organizational effectiveness. Prior to founding the Coleman Group, Ms. Coleman spent twenty-five years in the telecommunications industry developing management expertise, serving most recently as Vice President and General Manager of a major division of AT&T. Campers experience first-hand how people lived during the American Civil War, both as soldiers and civilians, and programs instill an appreciation of how teamwork and cooperation contribute to success. Campers are mustered into military service, and they re-enact the life of a Civil War soldier in camp, on the march, on the battlefield, and at home on furlough. The newly enlisted soldiers drill with wooden rifles, participate in cannon role-play, help prepare and aim a mortar, and conduct a full-scale military exercise. Campers learn soldier skills, like map reading, sending messages with signal flags and Civil War survival techniques. Sessions will include crafts, such as making a rifle cartridge, a soldier's journal, and a tin-punched wall hanging. Activities also include cultivating and planting a cornfield using 19th-century tools and methods, playing soldier games, and experiencing the fascinating, interactive exhibit, Duty Called Me Here, through the real-life story of 13-year-old drummer boy, Delavan Miller. Pamplin Historical Park's History Day Camp three-day session dates for children ages 8-11 years old are June 16-18, June 23-25, July 7-9, July 28-30, and August 4-6. Camp begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. All activities take place on the campus of Pamplin Historical Park. History Day Camp costs $100.00 for the three-day sessions. The payment covers registration, craft materials, souvenirs, and snacks. Campers are responsible for bringing a lunch each day. If you are interested in registering a child for History Day Camp at Pamplin Historical Park, please visit www.pamplinpark.org/day_camphtml and fill out the permission slip and medical release form, then mail or fax them to the Park. APTS is a housing first model. Housing First is a model of supportive housing that houses persons who are homeless in permanent housing as a first step in service provision. Comprehensive services (in the form of a state licensed Intensive Community Treatment Team) are then offered to program participants for as long as they may be needed. The model has been successful in housing and treating chronically homeless persons with a serious mental illness and co-occurring substance abuse disorders. APTS is based on Pathways to Housing, a successful model in New York City and Washington, D. C and replicated in over a dozen urban areas around the nation. Approximately 80% of Pathways' clients remain stably housed. Although scheduled clinical activities occur during normal working hours, clinical staff are available to program participants 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The team rotates on-call, weekend, and holiday coverage. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: This position is responsible for providing daily operation and clinical oversight of the APTS ICT team.
