Do you know if your program is having an impact on long-term goals? Would you like to avoid wasting time and money on activities that do not achieve the desired outcomes? If you answered yes to any of these than you will want to attend our workshop on Program Planning: Making the Connections, Logically. Logic models are popular tools used to represent relationships between program needs, goals, objectives, and activities. We encourage you to take a few minutes to answer this survey. -------------------------------------------------------- The V3 Campaign is seeking answers from you! Too many in the public and media as well as our policy makers are unaware of the economic and social impact of the nonprofit sector. When it comes to addressing the problems of poverty, education, public health and environmental quality, the nonprofit sector is leading the way in producing solutions. These solutions, however, could have an even greater impact if they were leveraged through more powerful and enterprising partnerships between nonprofit, business and governmental forces. The V3 Campaign has these issues in mind as it becomes part permanent campaign and part nonprofit organization. This hybrid will become both resource center and advocacy arm for nonprofit organizations nationally, with an eye towards a global initiative. The V3 Campaign has partnered with ConnectNetwork, American Humanics, and Virginia Network of Nonprofit Organizations to launch this survey. This survey runs from September 10 - September 30, 2009, with findings presented in October. Please follow this link to take this 15 minute survey. The survey answers will help the V3 Campaign determine how nonprofit employees and leaders would like to see this exciting campaign develop and will produce information that we can present to those who run for office so that they will better understand the vast untapped power of the nonprofit community. The events will primarily be held at the Holiday Inn and the Hilton Garden Inn. The Charity Event is to raise money for Alzheimer's Disease and student stipends for those in VCU's Gerontology program. Sherry Peterson, Chief Executive Office for the Alzheimer's Association Greater Richmond Chapter states that 26,000 people in this Chapter's area have Alzheimer's Disease. Each of these individuals has two or more family members that must face the challenges of this disease on a daily basis. This chapter serves over 10,000 people a year, with 90% of the services being provided free of charge funded from donations from the community. The goal is to raise $5000.00 for these organizations in one day. This will be an all day and evening event open to the public. From 11:00am - 3:00pm there will be crafters selling their hand-made items and vendors providing information on their organizations. There will be a Kid's Zone with a moon bounce, snow cone and popcorn machines, as well as many other activities. Food, beverages and other goods will also be for sale. Dance Xplosion of Chester will be holding two performances at 11:30am and 1:00pm. Richard Childress Racing has also generously donated the Holiday Inn Show Car for the day for public viewing. Shamin Hotels CEO, Neil Amin, states, "When discussing the plans to celebrate our one year anniversary at these locations, we decided what better way to celebrate than to expand our community service efforts by honoring the efforts made of these two organizations. In honor of November being Alzheimer's Awareness Month, we found it very appropriate to fundraise for Alzheimer's Disease. In the same process we found it equally important to fundraise for those that are in the process of making it their career to take care of the current and future aging populations." Dr. Ayn Welleford, Chair of the Department of Gerontology agreed. She states, "Everyone is well aware of the shortage of health care professionals, particularly in eldercare. Our role is to educate individuals across the continuum of care as the mission of VCU's Department of Gerontology, School of Allied Health Professions is "Improving Eldercare through Education." The evening event will consist of a silent auction consisting of items donated by local retailers and other businesses and a sit down dinner. The dinner is $30.00 per person and reservations only taken in advance. All money raised will be donated equally to the Alzheimer's Association and VCU's Department of Gerontology Student Stipend Fund. Tickets are free but required and are now available by calling (804) 289-8980. His appearance in Richmond is as part of the Jepson Leadership Forum, the marquee speaker series of the Jepson School of Leadership Studies. This year's theme for the speaker series is "The Common Good." Jepson.richmond.edu for the full line-up. About this talk: "The reduction of violence on scales large and small is one of our greatest moral concerns," so wrote Steven Pinker in his groundbreaking The Blank Slate: The Modern Denial of Human Nature. "We ought to use every intellectual tool available to understand what it is about the human mind and human social arrangements that leads people to hurt and kill so much." Has human life become more or less violent over the centuries? What should we expect, based on our understanding of human nature? And what have been the major trends, and what has caused them? Pinker will discuss the features of the human mind that lead to violence as well as those that lead to peace, and how the balance between them has shifted over time. With his light touch and deep intelligence-and with examples from everyday speech and pop culture-Pinker demonstrates how our words reflect the thoughts we think, the emotions we feel, and the relationships we hold. About the Speaker: A native of Montreal, Pinker is Johnstone Family Professor of Psychology at Harvard University and has also taught at Stanford University and, for 21 years, at MIT. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, has won a number of teaching prizes, and was named among Newsweek's "100 Americans for the Next Century."
