Second City to perform for Beacon Theatre benefit

The Second City, the legendary improvisational comedy troupe from Chicago,
is under contract to perform in Hopewell next September. The performance is
to benefit restoration of the historic Beacon Theatre.

Hopewell Preservation Inc. Executive Director Cheryl L. Collins announced
today that The Second City will bring its sparkling satire to Hopewell as
part of the campaign to raise $7.3 million to complete the restoration of
the 1928 structure in downtown Hopewell.

³We¹re excited that Tri-City Area residents will have a chance to see Second
City¹s National Company perform here,² said Collins. The Sunday, Sept. 30,
event is to be held at Hopewell High School¹s auditorium. Tickets are to go
on sale in early 2007.

In addition to the performance, people who buy premium tickets are to have
an opportunity to meet cast members during a reception in the Flannagan
Family Ballroom at the Beacon Theatre on Main Street.

Known for improvisation, The Second City has been taking its act on the road
for more than 30 years. Since the late 1950s actors with The Second City
have been delighting audiences. The Second City now has theatres in Toronto,
Las Vegas and Detroit as well as Chicago.

Among prominent alumni of Second City casts are Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers,
John Belushi, John Candy, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, Jim Belushi, Mike
Myers, Bill Murray, Chris Farley and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

³Although Richmond venues have had the opportunity to book The Second City
in recent years, none of them have,² noted Collins. ³Our theatre may not be
restored yet, but our commitment to providing quality entertainment in our
community is solid.²
