Tonight, the Petersburg City Council will hold a public hearing seeking
public input on the question of whether the City of Petersburg should
voluntarily place a historic preservation easement on Battersea and its
surrounding property. At the conclusion of the public hearing, Council may
vote on this matter. Members of City Council have indicated their desire to
hear from citizens, preservation leaders, and members of the Board of
Battersea, Inc.
Please consider writing an email and/or attending the public hearing to show
your support of this easement.
An historical Easement is necessary for this property of such State and
National historical and architectural significance. Battersea has been
listed on the National Register since 1969 and is in the final phase of
being awarded the top honor…Landmark Status. Equally important to Battersea
Inc. is that Battersea, itself, is not a static house museum but a catalyst
for endless educational, cultural, employment training, and recreational
opportunities that will serve to enrich the lives of Petersburg Citizens and
those in the surrounding areas.
We are encouraged with the significant support from members of City Council
for the protection this easement affords.
Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, contact Barbara P.
Mosley, Vice-President or Richard Baugham at the Battersea office (804)
732-9882 or by email at Batterseainc at gmail.com.
