There will be a reception / artist talk on October 11 from 4-6pm for the public. Now living in Richmond, Emma Lou spent her childhood in Mathews where she developed a love of nature exploring the rivers, fields and woods surrounding her home on the East River. Her early creative talent was expressed in Mathews High School biology class with pen and ink illustrations for science projects, one of which was an insect collection that went to the state Jr. Academy of Science in 1954. There were no art classes offered in Mathews public schools at that time, so her first exposure to art was at Randolph-Macon Women's College and the College of William and Mary where she graduated with a degree in fine art. Sixteen years ago she was the Founding director of Uptown Gallery, a Richmond area artist corporative, where she will be the featured artist September through October. Emma Lou is a signature, award winning member of the Virginia Watercolor Society and a charter member of the VA Collage Society. Gallery Hours are Tuesday - Friday, 10am-5pm and Saturday, 10am-3pm. For more information, please respond to the appropriate contacts indicated. Thank you! ======================================= EXPANSION OF WAITING LIST FOR VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION SERVICES Due to recent state budget cuts, after November 15, 2008, all new applicants for services by the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services, even those with the most significant disabilities, will be placed on a waiting list for services. Those being served as of November 15 will continue to be served. As required by the federal Rehabilitation Act, those placed on the wait list will be referred to the Virginia Workforce Centers and other community resources for assistance to help them obtain employment. DRS managers hope that enhanced scrutiny of case services expenditures and numerous internal cost containment strategies will enable them to address the waiting list sooner rather than later. Therefore, it is imperative that schools, Community Service Boards, Centers for Independent Living, and other sources continue to refer individuals to the VR program so that their eligibility can be determined and they can be placed in the queue to receive services when new resources do become available.
